Back to Germany

 

Back to life. Back to reality. And reality is not exactly easy. It’s definitely easier to sleep in, eat whatever I want, exercise occasionally, have dessert all the time and drink wine every night with dinner. Now it’s time to hit the gym, eat vegetables and spend more time reading and less time watching tv.

Being back in Germany after almost 3 weeks in the US is an adjustment, definitely. It’s still a little cold, the people aren’t as outwardly friendly and Parks and Recreation isn’t on Netflix. Our apartment is not nearly as nice as my parent’s house (or even the house we rented in Nashville), there’s no lake view and Chick-Fil-A isn’t at every highway exit. The water is harder here in Germany and I noticed it a lot because my hair was so soft and great at my parent’s.

I wanted to get so much done yesterday, like going to the gym and the grocery store, but I took a 3 hour nap instead. It felt great and was just what I needed to get through the day. I did clean the apartment, unpack and take down all the Christmas decorations. That’s still a productive day, right?

Coming back to Germany has made me realize how much life has changed. I am more patient, more aware of my surroundings and more open. I’ve come to appreciate the easiness of home and how much home really matters. Home doesn’t necessarily have to be a 4 bedroom, 3,000 square foot house in the best suburb, but a place that’s filled with love and the people that matter most to you.

Even though the language is difficult, I still don’t know where everything is in the grocery store and I miss Target on a daily basis, I love the life my husband and I have created in Germany. It’s our last year here and I just want to live it to the fullest!

I’m still getting over jet lag and hope that after this week, I will be more clear headed and be able to focus on everything I want to accomplish this year!
