Best Documentaries

Recently, Hubby and I have been really into watching documentaries on Netflix and HBO Now. Side Note: HBO Now is available on Apple TV and you get your first month free.

We signed up for our free month of HBO Now and we’re uh-bsessed with it. I’ve watched a few episodes of Girls and we’ve watched quite a few movies and documentaries so far.

Here are some of our favorite documentaries from the streaming sites:

Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief

OMG! I don’t want to pass judgement on anyone, but this “religion” is whacky. If you have any interest in learning about Scientology, I highly recommend this documentary. There are interviews with previous followers and they detail how the “religion” operates. Did you know there are different levels of Scientology and people pay to go up to the next level. It isn’t until level 7 that you are told the true findings and purpose of the teachings. It’s really fascinating.

The Jinx

Stop what you’re doing and go watch this!! It is incredible. If you haven’t heard anything about this, this documentary follows the story of Robert Durst, the oldest son of a high-powered NYC real estate family. Bob has a rough childhood, he falls in love, gets married and his wife goes missing. He moves to Texas where he lives as a mute woman. He kills and dismembers his neighbor. He’s the prime suspect in his wife’s disappearance. His friend in Los Angeles is murdered. There’s an envelope with the same handwriting and the same misspelling. There’s an accidental confession. Do I have your attention? Seriously, watch it!

Blackfish

I love this! It’s a great tale about Sea World. I’m sure you’ve heard of it. I loved it. I’ve watched it 3 times.

The Queen of Versailles

OK, this one I watched by myself. But, it’s super interesting. This family who was building an exact replica of Versailles from France loses all their money. The husband started a bunch of time shares in Las Vegas and over extended himself. It’s all about how the family goes from living large to living small. The woman goes to McDonald’s in a limo. She asks what her driver’s name is at a Hertz counter. It’s shot like a reality tv show and awesome.

What’s your favorite documentary?
