In August, I started working more hours a week at my marketing job. I went from working 12 hours to 20 and now I go to the office Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Since then I’ve been struggling to find a great morning routine. Mondays and Fridays are great but I don’t love that everyday starts differently.
Mondays are my best day because I wake up, go to the gym, walk the dog and eat breakfast all before 9 AM. Fridays are usually similar. But the other days of the week usually are me waking up way too late, taking the fastest shower of all time and going to the office feeling unmotivated, not prepared for the day and in desperate need of coffee.
This month, I really want to revamp my morning routine so that I start each day in a productive way, a way that sets the tone for a successful, healthy day. In an effort to make the mornings more streamlined, I am putting together a list of goals to do each morning, in an ideal world.

Wake up at the same time every day. Super guilty of sleeping in on the days when I don’t have to necessarily be somewhere. For example, today I woke up at 8:30 because I didn’t sleep so well this weekend. Not getting up at the same time ever single day means that my body doesn’t know what to expect from the day. It’s not a great thing. The days I do wake up early, I always feel better. So, I’d like to wake up at 6:00 AM every single day, whether I’m going to the office or not. I use my phone as an alarm clock and it sits right on my night stand. Perhaps I should actually get an alarm clock and put it across the room. Maybe this one?
Do some sort of exercise. On the days when the gym is open early enough (which is only Monday, Wednesday and Friday), I want to go to the gym and get in a good workout. On the days when the gym is closed, I want to do some stretching or yoga at home and possibly taking Copley for a walk before work (she doesn’t love to walk early in the morning, especially when it’s cold). Starting the day with some kind of exercise always makes me feel better and I make better eating choices throughout the day.
Snuggle with Copley. This is the easiest thing to do but I just love starting mornings with a great puppy snuggle. Her routine is quite simple: get up when Vinn wakes up, eat breakfast, come back to bed to snuggle with Mama. Not a bad day.
Take my time getting ready for the day. I do not like being rushed in life, at all. It gives me legit anxiety. If I had a better routine, especially by waking up earlier, I wouldn’t be rushed. I can’t tell you how many times I go to work with my hair wet and some curly hair product that allows your hair to air day.
If I can do these things, I know that I would feel happier at work, have a more relaxed start to the day and be even more productive than I already am. I will report back at the end of the month with how I’m doing with this!

Happy Monday, Everyone. It’s a snowy, cold Monday here in Germany and I’m drinking a cappuccino on the couch, snuggling with Copley. It’s a nice way to start the week and the perfect time to share a virtual coffee date!
If we were sitting together drinking coffee, I would ask you if you have any trips planned for 2017. I’m in the process of planning our trips this year and it’s getting a little overwhelming, yet exciting. We are going to Dublin in February and Vienna in April but that’s all we have officially planned. Do you have any recommendations for either of those places? We’re also thinking of going to the Champagne district, Spain, Tuscany and Switzerland again.
I’d tell you about how I’m feeling a little lost this week. Last night I watched The Intern and Robert de Niro said that after he retired and his wife passed away he felt lost. He said he’s a happy person but that there’s a hole in his life that needs filled. That is exactly how I’ve been feeling lately. I am happy, don’t get me wrong. I love my life and feel so blessed to have the opportunity to live here and travel around, but I feel like I don’t have direction. For the first time in my life I don’t know what I want to do with my life work-wise, I don’t feel a strong connection to my community and like I have a strong group of girlfriends.
We’d talk about any movies you’ve seen recently. I really want to see La La Land but it doesn’t come out in Germany until January 26th. This weekend, Vinn and I watched Sully and Secret Life of Pets. Both were really good. Sully was emotional so switching to an animated movie was exactly what we needed.
I’d probably ask you to go shopping after our coffee so I could get some more candles for our apartment.
We’d discuss our fitness routines. I’ve been working out every day this week, yesterday running a 5k, and I’m feeling great. I’d tell you how I need to eat better so my exercise makes a bigger impact. What do you do for fitness?
I’d share how frustrated I am that my pictures on the blog from January 2016 – May 2016 seem to have disappeared. I’ve been spending hours reuploading the pictures!! It’s frustrating but actually kind of fun to look back on that time. Our apartment sure looked different!
It’s only Monday, but I’d ask what your plans are for the weekend. I have zero and will probably spend the weekend taking some walks and watching Housewives.
After several hours, we’d say our goodbyes and I’d tell you have to have a great week!!
What would you want to talk about during our coffee date?
Hi. I’m Jessica and I have a problem. With tv.
There, I said it.
I have a problem watching tv. I turn on the tv for background noise, for entertainment and for a cure for boredom. I do really love my housewives and will never be able to give them up. But, this past week I’ve been itching to do something during the day other than watching tv. I want to spend more time outside exploring and using my time inside for studying and writing.
So, this past Friday, I didn’t watch tv all day! It was surprisingly easy at first, and then it was really hard. Here’s what the day looked like:
6:05 – 7 AM: Gym time! Unfortunately, the power was out and the only cardio I could do was the stair master. I haven’t done the stairs in years and after 10 minutes on this thing, I remember why. It sucks. I kept going and did 20 minutes here and then a Tone It Up video.
7:15 – 8 AM: Get ready for the day and take Copley for a walk.
8:30 – 10:45 AM: Teach English online. I’m actually having a lot of fun teaching English and it’s a great way to help non-native speakers learn the language and help them at work. Everyone I teach already has the basics of English down, they just want to learn more business phrases.
11 – 12 PM: Blog and listen to Apple Music. I’m really liking the radio option on Apple Music. It’s like Spotify, but with Apple.
12 – 12:45 PM: Walk with Copley to Ludwigsburg. Friday was perfect weather for the 40 minute walk. Copley did a great job during the walk, but was definitely tired!
1 – 2 PM: I did some shopping at the city center for an upcoming bachelorette party and ate some Subway.
2 – 3 PM: Keeping the amazing train going, I went to the main square to read my book and drink a glass of rose.
After that, Copley and I walked back and she passed out!!
5 PM: I admittedly started watching YouTube videos right before 5 PM. I was home by myself and had finished my German homework, already read all my blogs and was going a little crazy.
And then Vinn came home, we made dinner and watched some tv. I didn’t go the entire day without tv, but I made it through the working day without it. It was great to get out of the house with Copley, enjoy the weather, do something to stimulate my mind and appreciate where we live.
My Overall Thoughts: I still love tv. It’s one of my vices and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it. The problem lies when tv becomes the focus of the day. I feel great about getting out of the house. There will be days, probably a rainy day, when I’ll stay home and watch tv for hours, but I’m going to limit those days. 3 years isn’t that long and now’s the time to do things and not watch tv.

Why, hello there.
You’re probably noticing some differences around the ‘ol blog recently. I have decided to take the leap and make some upgrades. I’ve always wanted to be part of some sort of blog sponsorship programs and to really “up my blogging game.”
I want to redesign the blog, put together a style guide so the pictures are more consistent and I have a schedule for writing posts. I’ve been pretty low-key about everything and I feel it’s time to make this everything it should be.

I am going to be doing a lot of behind the scenes action and I’m trying to make my little place on the internet a great place for people to visit who want to read about the great things in life. With all the negativity surrounding our world today, I think we all need to have somewhere to go to escape the bad and soak in the good. I want to write about the great experiences I’m having while living as an expat, our travel destinations, just everything that makes life worth living.

Ok, after spending more time than I’m willing to admit on trying to find out how to upload pictures from my camera to my computer yesterday, I can now say that I figured it out. And, it was so simple. Like so simple I am embarrassed by how much time I spent yesterday working on things.
Let’s back up a second. For Christmas, my parents gave me this awesome new camera!
I love it. It’s got more oomph than a standard digital camera but without the price tag of a DSLR. My one semi-complaint is that it is bigger than a point and shoot, but I’m really looking forward to taking it with us on trips and get some fantastic pictures from our travels.
Yesterday was the first day I used the camera and I want to share the pics! Can you tell a difference?
Here’s the little bean at the train station. She is definitely getting used to it and I really love being able to take her with me places. I love that she doesn’t have to be by herself all day.
A shot of my lunch yesterday. If having prosecco at lunch is wrong, I don’t wanna be right! And this sandwich, yum!! It was a tomato, mozzarella and pesto sandwich. Absolutely delicious.
After lunch, I came home and did some Rosetta Stone. I definitely like studying this way in conjunction with private lessons. I hope I’m learning things…
My assistant was slacking on the job. But she’s so cute!
So that was our day yesterday as told by my new camera. I do think these pictures are brighter and I didn’t do anything to these pictures. No retouching or brightening. I hope to get a little better at “photoshopping” minus the expensive software.
