Friday Favs {September 30}

Holy cow. Tomorrow is October. How did that happen? This year has seriously flown. Do I say that every week? We’ll, it’s so true. I swear, the older I get, the faster time goes.

This week has been really nice and this weekend is going to be even better. Monday is a holiday in Germany and I can’t wait to spend a day during the week walking around with Vinn and the pup. Unfortunately, he has to work tomorrow, but we’ll make the most of it. I think I’ll spend the time he’s gone at the gym, snuggling with Copley on the couch, working on some blog things and German homework. Wow, that’s not really a break, is it? As for tonight, we are (hopefully!) heading to our first German basketball game! There are a lot of American players, so I’m excited to see the difference between US and European basketball.

And since it’s Friday, it’s time to share my Friday Favs for this week.

Our new Nespresso machine

nespresso foam

To say that I am obsessed with this is an understatement. To be able to get a cup of coffee with the press of a button is incredible. And the best part? We also got a milk frother. Again, you just push a button and it makes cappuccino foam. I’ve had one every single day this week, sometimes more than one.

I definitely miss our Keurig and this machine is the next best thing. I will say that one negative is that the Nespresso machine doesn’t make a large cup of coffee. It’s definitely more European. But when I add the foamed milk, it’s the perfect size. We got the Pixie machine and the Aero milk frother, in case you’re wondering.

Howard Schultz on Alec Baldwin’s Podcast

I’ve shared my love for Alec Baldwin’s podcast in the past and it’s still a favorite. Long live Jack Donaguhe!! I recently listened to his episode with Howard Schultz, the CEO of Starbucks, and it left me feeling super inspired. Mr. Schultz seems like such a down-to-earth guy who is focused on building a brand and a company his dad would be proud of. I, admittedly, love a Starbucks, so hearing his perspective on everything was really insightful. Give it a listen here.

Looking forward to reading a new book

On Monday, I shared my book review for Amy Schumer’s book. And now I am doing a complete 180 and reading a book about the Cold War and espionage. I know, a little different, right? Vinn and I watched Bridge of Spies, the Tom Hanks movie about the Cold War and how a lawyer came to negotiate the return of a military man and a student out of Germany. It is a great movie and really peaked my interest. When I saw Billion Dollar Spy on Amazon, I knew I had to read it. It sounds a lot like the movie. I will report back on how good it is.

Homemade Bolognese Sauce

italian food

Last night I made homemade bolognese sauce and it was quite delicious, much more delicious than the photo makes it look. It’s so simple to make and perfect for a weeknight meal. All I did was put some pureed tomatoes, 1/2 cup of water, salt, basil, garlic, onion and parsley into a pot. I let it low boil for a few hours. And then I brown meat in a skillet and then add it to the sauce. That’s it.

I will say that letting the sauce sit overnight before adding the meat makes it taste way better. The sauce really absorbs all the spices and herbs and just tastes amazing.

For my meal, I did a combination of pasta and zucchini for added nutrients/a little healthier.

And that’s it for today. What are your favs this fine Friday? What are you looking forward to this weekend?
