No Cable Really is No Problem

cable

Hi Everyone! Happy Tuesday. Today I thought I’d write about our life without cable. It’s been about 2 months since we officially cut ourselves from the cable box, and I must say, it’s not as bad as I thought.

I kicked and screamed when Hubby brought up the idea of cutting cable. But we were spending $125+ on cable and internet every month! That’s insane. For the amount of time we were actually watching TV, it’s a ridiculous amount of money. While I agree that we should be saving more money, how could I live without my Bravo obsession?!

In March, I agreed to test not having cable for a week. Meaning, I would only watch Netflix and Hulu on our Apple TV or Roku. (We have both options and I like the Apple TV better).

And do you know what I discovered?

I didn’t NEED cable!

I watched old episodes of the Real Housewives on Hulu, Friends and documentaries on Netflix and purchased the current season of RHOC on iTunes. It wasn’t bad. It certainly helped that we were training for the marathon and spent the majority of our days either running or sleeping. But I definitely enjoyed some days just lounging on the couch having a season 2 RHOBH marathon.

And now that it’s been 2 months sans cable, I can legitimately say that I am a convert. I don’t miss cable AT ALL. I find myself spending more time outside, reading books or just spending quality time with my Hubby and Copley Bean. It’s been glorious.

The saving grace is having the streaming subscriptions, obviously, and I pay for the season pass of the current housewives seasons, which I just can’t do without. Those are a God send. The new episode automatically syncs to our Apple TV and I can watch the day after it airs. I love it. And I own them, so I can go back and watch an episode any time I want.

We also can watch ESPN, USA, Fox and ABC through the apps on the Apple TV thanks to knowing someone else’s cable log-in.

I am happy to be saving money, spending more time with my loved ones and actually using my brain instead of lounging on the couch at all hours of the day.

I’ve also certainly found good use for the $$ we’ve saved every month, too. Hello, online shopping! We now only spend $39.99/month on internet. That’s a lotta shoes and beach cover ups!

Have you cut ties with your cable box? Do you think you could do it?
