Happy Thanksgiving to all the Americans out there. This is one of my favorite holidays because my mom is the best cook in the entire world. Family comes over in the early afternoon and we eat way too many appetizers and drink way too much wine. And then we stuff our faces with the traditional Thanksgiving food until it’s time to watch Christmas Vacation.
This year looks a little different: I have to go to work today. Family isn’t here. And canned pumpkin isn’t sold here. The bright side is that on Saturday we are having a Friends-giving with some other Americans and their German husbands so we’ll still get to celebrate. I’m in charge of the mashed potatoes, some kind of vegetable and dessert. I can’t wait.
In honor of today being Thanksgiving, I thought I’d share what makes me thankful!
Of course the obvious/serious, I’m thankful for my wonderful husband, our puppy and our family. I’m thankful for our health and safety. I’m thankful for the opportunity to be living here in Germany. I’m thankful for the jobs we both have. I’m thankful for our friends and how they feel like family. I’m thankful for this blog and how much I love writing it. I’m thankful for all of our travels.
On a not so serious note, I’m thankful for Christmas decorations. I’m thankful for Friends and Real Housewives. I’m thankful for homemade spaghetti sauce. I’m thankful for Amazon. I’m thankful for our Nespresso machine. I’m thankful for baggy sweatshirts and yoga pants. I’m thankful for technology and that it allows me to stay in touch with family and friends. I’m thankful for Google Translate. I’m thankful for our chaise lounge. I’m thankful for weekend afternoon naps. I’m thankful for good books that grab my attention immediately. I’m thankful for vanilla candles.
I’m thankful for all of you!
What are you thankful for this year?
I have certainly touched on some of the cultural differences between life in Germany…
You would think getting mail would be the same everywhere, wouldn’t you…
