I’ve been in the workforce for over 5 years now. While I’ve had some great jobs, a not so great job, fun co-workers and some real duds. Being in a male dominated industry, I’ve realized that there are definitely situations and people who still don’t believe women can do
equal better work. I’ve witnessed and experienced a few situations that have made me realize that while we have come a long way, but we still have a long way to go.
Here are some examples:
“Andrea, dear, where are those samples?”
I ask a question to a supplier, supplier answers looking directly at my male colleague.
Men wink at me at trade shows, in meetings, everywhere.
Pretty much after every meeting someone asks me, “Did you take notes? Can you send them to me?” <—- That’s just laziness.
“Are you an intern?” No, sir, I’m 27, married and graduated from college 5 years ago. <—- got this 2 days ago.
In a meeting with all men talking, I ask a question and no one stops talking. <— probably rude people but when a man asks a question, they all stop talking
I know that I can be semi-over sensitive about this because I don’t like being talked down to AT ALL. It is a sure fire way to get me to go from 0 to 60.
I’ve busted my butt since middle school and I no one can stand in my way! I am woman hear me roar!
Have you ever experienced the glass ceiling in your office?
The past few weeks since coming home from our last trip back to the States…
One of the questions my friends always ask me is: So, what are you doing…
