First and foremost, happy 4th of July! Vinn and I are blessed to be American citizens and so lucky to be where we are for these next 3 years. It is because of the courageous men and women who fought for our freedom that we are able to have this great opportunity to live in another country. God Bless the U.S.A.
We are having friends over tonight to celebrate the 4th of July with a typical American BBQ. On the menu: hot dogs, buffalo chicken, veggies, fruit and a sugar cookie that looks like an American flag. I’ll post pictures tomorrow.
Over the weekend, Vinn and I watched the German soccer team play Italy in the EuroCup. To say it was an experience would be an understatement.
We went to a delicious Italian restaurant in downtown Stuttgart to watch the game. It worked perfectly because I got to enjoy some amazing Italian food and Vinn got to watch his beloved soccer.
Most restaurants in Stuttgart have put up TV’s during the Euro Cup and this place was no exception. They had TV’s inside and outside so that every single table could watch the game. It was fantastic.
The atmosphere was nothing like watching an American football game at Buffalo Wild Wings. People weren’t hollering or yelling at the screen. Of course, when any player took a shot at the goal, there were cheers…and then more cheers if they scored….and then groans if they didn’t. Everyone was really into their food, enjoying their drinks and watching the games with their friends. Some people wore jerseys, but a lot of people were just in “normal” clothes. It’s definitely not like going to watch the Green Bay Packers where everyone is decked head to toe in green and yellow.
The game was pretty boring. There was one goal for Germany and one goal for Italy during the regular game. When the penalty shots started, that’s when the real fun started!! The Italian workers all came out of the kitchen to watch and cheered loudly whenever a goal happened. And then the Germans would all stand up and cheer when it was their turn.
We had so much fun! Soccer isn’t my favorite sport, but I definitely enjoyed it. And Germany won!!! They play again on Thursday. I just may watch.
The beginning of August marked the one and a half year anniversary of us…
A huge positive to life in Germany is that you can get most places…
